About these rules

These charts follow the organizer’s graphics and take priority over older technique and weight PDFs. They summarize the listed techniques; an omitted technique is not automatically allowed or prohibited. Ask the organizer about single-leg and knee-reaping details not defined in the graphics. The published scoring and penalties remain applicable.

FULL RULES & PDFs

Visual charts and scoring are separate documents. The chart PDF matches the current rules data.

Scoring criteria

Scoring follows the IBJJF positional criteria, including 3 seconds of stabilization where required. A position reached while defending a submission does not earn points until the athlete escapes and establishes the required control. This guide summarizes scoring; consult articles 3-5 of the IBJJF Rule Book for the detailed criteria. SUG's technique and penalty rules remain applicable.

Advantages

The referee may award an advantage when an athlete nearly completes a scoring position without meeting all scoring requirements, or makes a submission attempt that puts the opponent in real danger and requires a defense. An attempt alone does not automatically earn an advantage. Advantages are recorded separately from points.

Cumulative penalties - all ages

The same sequence applies to children and adults, in Gi and No-Gi. Penalties accumulate and do not reset during the match. This table describes cumulative penalties; prohibited-technique rules apply separately.

Cumulative penalties - all ages

2nd1 advantage to the opponent
3rd2 points to the opponent

Stalling

Stalling for more than 30 seconds results in a penalty.
